Designed a custom task manager from scratch for my company, translating colleague feedback into an MVP that matched their real needs. Delivered core functionality that streamlined daily workflows, improved task visibility, and gave the team a practical tool they were eager to adopt and use.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Sunrise Development is an outsource development agency that needed a lightweight, centralized way to manage internal tasks. Existing tools on the market were either too complex or didn’t fit the company’s workflow, so a custom-built task manager was required to streamline operations and improve visibility across teams.

Client

I designed the task manager entirely from scratch, focusing on an MVP that directly reflected the needs of my colleagues at Sunrise. This involved gathering input from team members, mapping core workflows, and translating them into a clean, intuitive interface. The MVP included essential features such as task creation, assignment, and progress tracking—ensuring it was immediately functional and ready for daily use.

DESIGN PREVIEW

As part of the roadmap, we explored designing a Kanban-style view to give teams a more visual way of managing tasks.

Kanban View

The goal was to let users track progress at a glance by moving tasks across columns such as To Do, In Progress, and Completed. This format aligned with how many developers and managers already think about workflows, providing a familiar yet streamlined interface that made prioritization, workload balancing, and progress tracking more intuitive.

In addition to the Kanban concept, the team requested a list view for handling tasks in a more straightforward format. What started as a simple table evolved into an interactive list with just the right amount of functionality—custom tags, assignee selection, due dates, and status indicators—without unnecessary complexity. This approach balanced efficiency with clarity, allowing users to quickly scan, filter, and update tasks while keeping the interface clean and approachable.

List View

Managers also requested a dedicated Today Tasks view to gain real-time visibility into deadlines. This feature grouped all tasks due that day by project and showed how many tasks were assigned to each team member. It gave managers a clear overview of workload distribution, helped identify potential bottlenecks, and ensured that urgent priorities were surfaced without the need to dig through multiple views.

CONCLUSION

This was a rewarding project because it addressed a real internal need with clear, immediate impact. Designing something for colleagues meant I could see the usefulness of my work almost instantly, as the tool was quickly adopted into daily routines. It reinforced the value of listening closely to users, even in an internal setting, and demonstrated how thoughtful design can deliver practical results that make work easier and more organized.
